Dr. Paul Aarne Koljonen is a Consultant and Deputy Chief of Service in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong, and serves as Deputy Hospital Chief Executive of the Maclehose Medical Rehabilitation Centre (MMRC). He is also an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the LKS Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong. Fully subspecialized in spinal surgery and spinal cord injury rehabilitation, Dr. Koljonen is recognized for pioneering innovative rehabilitation technologies in Hong Kong, including the introduction of robotic exoskeleton services for paraplegic patients and advanced diaphragmatic stimulation techniques for ventilator-dependent individuals. He graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors from Johns Hopkins University and obtained his MBBS from The University of Hong Kong, followed by orthopaedic fellowships from the Hong Kong College of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. An accomplished clinician and researcher, he has authored numerous publications on degenerative cervical myelopathy, scoliosis, and spinal rehabilitation, and has received major honors including the HKUMed Faculty Clinical Service Excellence Award and the Hospital Authority Young Achiever Award.
